York High Swim Splashes the Competition

York High sent 17 swimmers to VHSL 3A Swimming State Championships. The girls came in third place overall, while the boys’ team came seventh overall. Notable individual performances include Elijah Field’s (Jr.) 2nd place in the 200 Individual Medley (1:56.70) and Casey Tingen’s (Jr.) 4th place in the 100 Freestyle (52.72).

After a tear-jearking disqualification in the 200 IM, Daniel Liang (Sr.) bounced back with a 2nd place finish in the 100 Breastroke (58.51), netting 17 points in the process. Junior Elijah Fields came in 6th in the 100 Butterfly (52.47) after his 2nd place performance in the 200 IM. To round it off, the Boys’ 200 Medley Relay finished 3rd (1:39.55), competing with teams from Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School, Lafayette High School, and more from around the state.

The girls saw many wins in the relays. They started off 5th in the 200 Medley Relay (1:51.70) and finished with a 2nd place in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:35.68). Some individual results include a 5th (1:08.69) and 8th (1:11.94) place finish in the 100 Breastroke by Kendall Butler (So.) and Addison Kramer (Sr.), respectively.

Brodie Persson (Sr.) said, “I feel like the relays went pretty well; however the individual times could have been better.” He was on the 200 Medley Relay team that got 3rd place. However, he also only scored individually in his 500 Freestyle, placing 7th (5:04.85).

Kalei South (Sr.) said, “It was so fun, especially the team cheers we did at the finals session. I could really feel the team spirit throughout the night.”

While no York High records were broken, there were several 3A records broken by students from various schools.
