Senior Commitments

As the 2023-2024 school year ends and decision day passes, seniors are deciding their plans for after graduation. National Decision Day is when seniors must commit/ pay their deposit to their college/university and is May 1st. YHS had many student-athletes commit to continuing their academic and athletic careers at the next level. Juniors and seniors can commit to playing a sport at college/university.

YHS Baseball had three student-athletes commit. Cole Draper committed to play NJCAA baseball at The Richard Bland College of William & Mary. Robert Holihan committed to play NCAA Division 3 baseball at Hampden-Sydney College. Milton Cheaney committed to play NCAA Division 3 baseball at Methodist University. Holihan and Cheaney will go from teammates to rivals in the next year, as both of their new teams are a part of the Old Dominion athletic conference.

YHS swim had four commitments. Lucas Vasquez committed to swim NCAA Division 3 at Baruch College. Nora McMullen committed to swim NCAA Division 3 at University of Mary Washington. Kendall Butler committed to swim NCAA Division 1 at West Virginia University. Junior Phoebe Mayo also announced her commitment this year for fall of 2025 to the University of Miami for NCAA Division 1 swimming.

YHS Women’s Lacrosse had one commitment. Adrianna Hernandez committed to play NCAA Division 1 lacrosse at Winthrop University.

YHS Football had three commits. Hayden Blanchard committed to play NCAA Division 3 football at Hampden-Sydney College. Quincey Beck committed to play NJCAA football at Navarro College. Evan Seawall committed to play at Hiram College.

YHS Golf had three commitments. Jeremy Green and Carter Chapin will be staying teammates as both will be playing NCAA Division 3 men’s golf at Randolph-Macon College. Carley Westmoreland has committed to Shenandoah University for NCAA Division 3 women’s golf.

YHS Softball had two commitments. Taylor Floyd will be playing NAIA softball for West Virginia University Institute of Technology. Bryanna Holland will be playing NJCAA softball at The Richard Bland College of William & Mary. YHS Cheer had one commitment from Lauren Ketchum to cheer at Christopher Newport University.

The Cross Country and Track & Field teams had three commits. Noah Hensley committed to the University of South Carolina Beaufort to run NCAA Division 2 track & field. Fellow teammate and best friend Jeremiah Grant also committed to run at USCB. Grant will be running NCAA Division 2 track & field as well as cross country. Seawall also committed to run NCAA Division 3 Track & field and play football at Hiram College.

On YHS men’s soccer team, there was one commit. Christian Russell committed to play NCAA Division 3 men’s soccer at Emory & Henry College. One athlete who committed for a non-school sport was Emma Veitz. Veitz is an equestrian and has committed to ride NCAA Division 3 at Hollins University.
