The musical The Sound of Music ran from April 28th to April 30th. Daniel Brewster (Sr.) played Captain Von Trapp. Kaylee MacLuskie (So.) played Maria.
MacLuskie said, “Everyone was so talented.”
Lauren Atwell (So.) was the Mother Abbess; Kiersten Meitz (Sr.) played Elsa, Stephen McWithey (Sr.) played Rolf, and Hannah Rimel (Fr.) played Liesl.
Connor Auby (Sr.) played the role of Max Detweiller. He said, “I played my part with flair.” Auby flipped his hat in character each evening.
Brieanna Carte (Sr.) who performed in the ensemble of the show said, “It was one of the best things I’ve ever done. Everyone was like a family and was treated like an equal and I wish I could be there more for all the next musicals, but I wouldn't change my experience for anything.”
The performance consisted of multiple shows with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the show beginning at 7:00 p.m. A live band performing the music from the classic film accompanied the performance. Richard Purvis led students including Jesse Eagle (Sr.) and Adam Gillette (So.) through a variety of songs, including “Edelweiss” and “Climb Every Mountain.”
Because the show features a family of children who range from 5 to 16, director Ryan Doster and his wife Dani Doster made the decision to cast younger show members who did not attend York High, including his own daughter Evee who played Gretl. At only 5 years old, students Elise Hoglund (So.) and Brayanna Holland (So.) were designated child protectors. Hoglund said, “She stole the show every time she said or did anything. She was adorable.”
Carte added, “It helped me grow as a person, and I feel that I’ve become more confident in myself.” The last performance of the show was April 30th, 2022.
