After years of service to York High School’s young learners, science teacher Lisa Field is set to retire in June. Field has been teaching different sciences in her time at York, including biology and marine sciences. However, at the end of the 2021-2022 school year, Field will end her teaching career and retire after over 30 years of educating York’s youth. Field has been very active within the school, including being the science department chair at York High School as well as being voted as “Best Personality” and “Most Likely to Win Jeopardy” at York’s teacher superlatives at the pep rally.
Field brought fun to the classroom by engaging in many projects, including dissections when she helped her students learn using hands-on activities. The energetic teacher brought in blue crabs, oysters, and small sharks to help bring the classroom to life through dissections. Field will be missed by her students as well as he fellow teachers. Lisa Field promoted study of science among her students. Field often implemented project-based learning for students. Although Field will miss the classroom, she certainly will not miss the stress that accompanies it. “No more late work, no more extra credit, no more papers to grade,” said Field as a benefit of retiring. After retiring, Field plans to spend more time with her husband. She also plans to go to dinner with friends every Tuesday night with all of her newfound spare time. Field has described the moment as “bittersweet” as she will miss educating people on the world of science, but she is excited to live the life she has worked for. Also retiring this year is bookkeeper Stephanie Bolden, who works in the main office.
Bolden, known for her love of pink, will join her husband Earl Bolden in enjoying retirement. She hopes to travel more often after her retirement in June.
