Senior Functions Close Year

Updated: Jun 1, 2022

Seniors are avidly participating in functions designed to close out their final year of high school. From prom to senior breakfast, students are soaking up the last bit of their adolescence before graduating on June 3rd.

During the week preceding prom on May 14th, senior breakfast tickets and nominations for prom king and queen were taken. In the weeks before that, tickets were sold and advertisements were made to promote the event to all seniors.

Maclovia Glaspell (Sr.) said, “Prom gives us a chance to enjoy our last weeks of high school, especially because we missed out on a lot because of the pandemic.” Seniors held an indoor prom this year after last year’s outdoor one held on school grounds. Prom took place at Ford’s Colony

The senior walk is another event in which the seniors at York High School can participate on June 1st. The walk takes place mere days before graduation and consists of the seniors walking through the elementary schools in the York County School Division. Although the event is optional, like many of the other events hosted specifically for seniors, many do participate to take a “walk down memory lane” at York, Seaford, and Dare Elementary as well as York Middle School.

Students also submitted original works for the class day event and for graduation. Poems will be read by Hima Prasad and MaryGrace Dickinson.

Other senior traditions are unsanctioned. Aubrey Stephan (Sr.) said, “Senior skip day is what I am the most excited for.” Graduation rehearsal is mandatory for all seniors after the senior walk on June 1st at 11:15.
