Senior Events Kick Off

Senior events have been ongoing as seniors count down the days to graduation. On April 17th and 18th, cap and gown deliveries arrived for students to pick up their orders in the cafeteria during lunches. Although seniors are not allowed to customize caps before the official ceremony, students can add approved cords and stoles to their graduation gowns based on organizations they have been part of, including honor societies.

Professional cap and gown portraits were taken in the auditorium for those who signed up the following week. Jocelyn Garibay said, “I’m most excited for my senior photos. I’m the first out of my siblings to graduate.”

Welcoming back an old York tradition, seniors were encouraged to bring in posters including their own pictures to decorate the cafeteria. Suggested photos to include on the display were baby photos, high school portraits, sports photos, and anything else showing students’ personalities.

Another day for photos and celebration, York’s prom will be on May 13th at Ford’s Colony Country Club from 8-11 pm. Students that purchased tickets in April will have the opportunity to enjoy the big night with the rest of their class. The theme of the dance this year is GLAM, or golden lights and memories.

June 10th marks the date of graduation at the Hampton Coliseum. “I’m just excited to finally graduate after all these years,” said Alyssa Cote. Through the start of anticipated senior events at York, the class of 2023 are wrapping up their high school journey to go on and experience new things.

Caps and Gowns were given out during lunch periods for seniors to pick up.

Madison Womack tried on her gown for the first time after receiving it in the cafeteria.
