On January 13th, the York High Scholastic Bowl team traveled to Tabb High School to compete in the last matches of the regular season. Team members included seniors David Fan, Ayden Landsittel, Ryan Meares, Cole Ellars, Alyvia Herod, Matthew Esposito, Jenny Calderon (Jr.), and Nick Herod (Jr).
This meet was a combination of the previously scheduled last two meets of the season. York played a total of four matches against Tabb, Smithfield, Poquoson, and Grafton. The York High team fell to a 1-3 record on the meet, recording another much-needed win over Smithfield.
Meares said, “Being competitive is challenging and I liked it. It was fun.”
The team traveled to regional competition at New Kent on February 5th in an attempt to record back-to-back regional championships. After the first two matches, the team held a record of 1-1 and faced elimination.
Knowing with one more loss, the team would be sent home, the Falcons won the next three games.
With no breaks in between any of the matches, the Scholastic Bowl team went into the championship match against the undefeated Tabb Tigers. The Falcons fell short, achieving second place after a great showing by Tabb player Jackson Glass.
