Outdoor Track and Field

The Outdoor Track and Field team competed in meets at the UVA campus, Glen Allen High School, and at Charles City, resulting in personal records and state qualifiers.

Coach Thomas Tate, Coach Austin Ball, Coach Chris Laws, Coach Charles Brown, Coach Vince Montanaro, and Coach Burt Seawell trained athletes throughout the season.

The team had its first meet of the season at Charles City County High School. The girls placed 3rdoverall at the meet and took home a trophy. Senior Ciarra Moore took home a trophy of her own at this meet for being the “Most Outstanding Performer” out of all the girls at the meet.

Moore said, “It felt nice to see the fruits of my labor.”

The team had 3 Bay Rivers District meets this season, in which they raced the other teams in the Bay Rivers District. They hosted the second Bay Rivers meet, so not only did they have athletes running in events, but they also helped move hurdles and run the concession stand to help raise money for the team.

Multiple athletes have already qualified for the State Championship and will compete at Liberty University on June 2 and 3.

Sophomore Danielle Hollington qualified in the 400m with a time of 1:00.16. Senior Ciarra Moore qualified in the 200m with a time of 26.51, in the long jump with a distance of 17-6, and in the triple jump with a distance of 37-2. Junior Grace Katzer qualified in the 800m with a time of 2:21.45.

Katzer said, “Qualifying in the 800 was a challenging experience for me because I had really good competition.”

Sophomore J’emarcus Tyler qualified in long jump with a distance of 20-8.25, and senior Micah Leech also qualified in long jump with a distance of 21-8.

The team had multiple meets before the State Championship, including the Dogwood Invitational and the BRD Championship, as well as regionals.
