National Art Honors Society Field Trip

In November of 2022, the National Art Honors Society took a day trip to Richmond, Virginia. There, they met with an acclaimed artist, visited the art museums, and explored the city’s many murals.

Club president Trinity Salboro stated, “This trip has allowed me to reconnect to the club I love so dearly, after years of abnormal club meetings and projects!”

During this trip, the society met an artist, Richard Peacock, and they explored his art studio and exhibit. They learned about how Peacock works with many types of mediums to create his art. He explained the process of his creations and performed a demonstration of how he creates his pieces. Peacock allowed the society to see his private collection of artifacts from Mayan, Aztec, and African cultures. Peacock encouraged aspiring artists to always allow art into their lives, and to continue their intake of information beyond their general education.

The society also had the opportunity to visit the Richmond art museum to explore many centuries of artwork, from Ancient China to late 1900s home décor. The society also occupied the great lawn as they ate lunch, enjoying the art pieces that were too large to keep indoors. Afterward, students discussed their favorite displays as they walked the streets of Richmond. They took breaks along the street to photograph the street murals on the sides of buildings.

Club member Taylor Memory said, “I really loved seeing the street art, and how art can be created anywhere.”

The club plans to do more field trips in the future. The members also created a thank you card for Peacock with recreations of his artwork and his collection, and they included appreciative messages. The members posted photos of their trip on the club’s social media, forever capturing the memories of the National Art Honors Society 2022-2023 field trip.
