Homecoming week made a comeback after the year-long effects of the COVID-19 pandemic hit York High School. In 2021, students attended virtual school and could not participate in in-person events per state and local guidelines. After a long-awaited return, the well-known Homecoming events, pep rallies, parade, and powder puff resumed with precautions. During the Homecoming Pep Rally, senior superlatives were awarded, games were played, and sports were recognized. Student Council Spirit Chair Rayne Hinton (Jr.) said her favorite part about the Homecoming Pep Rally was “how engaged the students were; everyone was participating and happy.” Spirit week also plays a major role in student engagement during the Homecoming week festivities. Spirit Days include many days of fun-filled outfits that promote a positive school atmosphere. York High School student Grace Law (Sr.) said she “liked the class cartoon and class color spirit days because they added to the competition of the spirit stick. The spirit days also showed how many of the students supported their class.” As a tradition, York High Homecoming candidates rode in convertibles and trucks as they arrived at Bailey Field. The parade consisted of the York High band, cheerleaders, little league football, class floats, and more. Student Council Service Chair Chahna Parikh (Sr.) described the Homecoming parade as “a big hit with the Falcon community; everyone loved the band, cheerleaders, and getting to see the homecoming court in nice convertibles and trucks.” The class themes were based on cartoons. The seniors were The Flintstones, the juniors picked Scooby Doo, the sophomores selected Spongebob Squarepants, and the freshmen Little Einsteins.
