Hayden Middleton was crowned “Mr. York High” during the senior class competition of Mr. York High. His fellow competitors included Grady Steele, Nicholas Herod, Elijha Trott, Carter Huls, Lucas Hicks, and Ryan Hendrix.
Produced by the senior class SCA, the pageant took several weeks to plan and write the script.
Casey Tingen, the senior class president, said, “We wanted to capture the simple traits of Mr. York High. That is why we choose to do a four-part competition—simple, but gets the job done.”
The competition consisted of interview, talent, trivia, and fitness. Each of the seven boys who competed was evaluated for his performance in each category.
The interview consisted of numerous ‘date-questions’ the boys had to answer on the spot. Hosts asked about first dates and how to properly treat a date.
Ryan Hendrix said, “The interview portion was difficult. Coming up with answers like that on the spot stumped me, but in the end, I got it done.”
The talent portion was the second competition. The boys each worked on his talents for weeks to come before the competition to impress the judges. The talents ranged from singing and dancing to magic and karate.
Next, was the trivia which included 10 questions about York High School and Yorktown. The goal was to have Mr. York High be well versed in his school and community.
Lastly was the push-up fitness competition. Everyone lined up and did as many push-ups as possible.
In the end, Middleton won ¾ of the competitions, guaranteeing the title of Mr. York High.
