Varsity girls tennis has been hungry for another winning season. The lady Falcons faced the Bruton Panthers May 10th, resulting in an 8-1 win for senior night.
The top six this year consist of mostly seniors. At #1 is Becca Allen, #3 Zhen Haskin, then Chahana Parikh, Lucy Browning, and Niya Patel follow, respectively. Chelsea Spivey (Jr.) earned the #2 position.
The top six single matches are played by each girl who fits said number. For example, Allen plays #1 singles, and Spivey plays #2 singles. The doubles are slightly mixed, with Allen and Spivey at #1, Haskin and Browning at #2, and Parikh and Patel at #3.
Allen said, “I feel like this season is going pretty well. It took us a while to get into the groove of things, but now we are doing good.” The Falcons are preparing for the post season.
On Tuesday, May 17th, the girls faced Phoebus High School in a playoff match at home. Haskin said, “I am excited for playoffs because we are all still able to bond and I hope we make it far into postseason.”
As of now, the team is looking at a 5 win and 5 loss record and hope to have a rematch with rival Tabb High School to even the playing field. Coach Stephen Fisher said, “In the team competition, I plan on working with singles and try to get enough victories to get to doubles. In the singles/doubles tournament, I plan to work on doubles’ strategies.” At this point in the year, if a team was to lose a match, then its season is over.
