Drama Classes Stage Creative Plays

The drama 3 and 4 class created and performed a play about Elton John. They performed this play in the auditorium for their quarterly assessment in March.

The performance was about ten minutes long and consisted of the students dressed in attire “fitting for Elton John’s wardrobe.” The play was about a man who faked his own death to get back his stuff from his secret lover, Elton John. His children and mostly hired actors go on an adventure to get their late father’s belongings.

Mel Goodwin (Sr.) said that, “The play was created from a whiteboard full of words or phrases connected to each other. I wrote Elton John in relation to Gnomeo and Juliet, and others circled his name along with the word ‘crime.’ Soon we mashed the two together to create a play complete with a dance scene about this topic.”

Goodwin described the actors picking the costumes. She said they had to “look very flashy and slay.” The dance number highlighted the costumes in Elton John’s fashion and style.

The play had students writing, producing, and performing. The play was the quarterly assessment, and the start of their directing unit they worked on much further into the year.

Jedi Ray (Sr.) said, “We changed our minds several times and still had so many ideas.” Ray said the process took “about 2 months” to put it all together and perform it.

Performers included Brayanna Holland (Jr.), Nick Herod (Sr.), Mel Goodwin (Sr.), Elise Hoglund (Jr.), Will Johnson (Sr.), Jedi Ray, Xylia Collantes (Jr.), and Finn Traner (Sr.). Not pictures is Aidan Gregory (Jr.).
