York Girls Swimming Place 3rd at States

The York High School Girls Swim Team placed third overall at the Class 3 VHSL State Swimming and Diving Championship in February of 2022. The meet was held in Richmond, Virginia and the Lady Falcons earned 3rd place amongst 29 other teams.



Throughout the 8 individual events and 3 relays, the Falcons earned 213 points collectively. Every athlete who swam in the meet made it back to the finals portion of the competition, meaning he/she placed in the top 16 swimmers during the preliminary round. All eight athletes attending also placed in the top 8 for the finals competition with four athletes placing top 3.



The York High School girls swim team placed 3rd in the Bay Rivers District and 1st in the Region. At the Regionals meet, the Falcons had 8 girls who qualified for the state competition. The highest points earners for the team were Kendall Butler (So.) and Casey Tingen (Jr.). Both were in the 400-yard freestyle relay that placed 2nd, and each placed in the top 5 for her individual events.


About her meet, Casey Tingen (Jr.) said, “I’m just really proud of the team. We had a great season, and really had a lot of fun. It was great to end the season with some fast swimming and a successful meet.”



The other athletes on the team also contributed to the Lady Falcons’ success. Kalei South (Sr.) and Addison Kramer (Sr.) each placed top 8 in all four events they competed in. Athletes Nora McMullin (So.) and Lily Persson (Jr.) each achieved best times and moved up in place during the final’s competition. The collective team performance earned the Falcons a top 3 finish in the State meet.


Kendal Butler (So.) recounted her state meet by stating, “I just really love my team. Whether we win or lose, we always find a way to have a good time. I hope that we continue our success and continue to have fun while doing it.”


The girls swim team traveled to Richmond, VA for the Class 3 State Championship on February 17, 2022. The team of eight athletes placed third overall against 29 other teams in attendance. This is continuing an eight-year streak for the girls team of placing in the top 5 at the state competition. Coaches Caitlin Davis and Steve Fisher took the teams to state.
